General Rules Consultation
The Board established a set of General Rules to enable us to carry out the requirements of the Architects Act 1997. When updating the Rules, it’s important for interested parties to have the opportunity to give feedback before the Board makes a final decision on any adjustments.

The General Rules include the procedure by which the Board vote on decisions made at its meetings. The current Rules provide for a ‘parliamentary’ style procedure which includes the formal proposing and seconding of ‘motions’. Our newly constituted Board believes making decisions by consensus, where possible, may be more efficient.

As a move to voting by consensus would require adjustments to the General Rules the Board has issued details of the changes it proposes and is consulting on them for a period of six weeks. Any feedback received will be taken into consideration by the Board at its meeting on 19 July 2019 before any adjustments to the Rules in this area are made.

The consultation will launch shortly and run for six weeks. Click here for more details and to give your views on the proposed changes to the General Rules. This is an opportunity for you to influence how the Board operates.

If you have any queries or would like to discuss any aspect of the consultation, please contact Emma Matthews our Head of Qualifications and Governance (emmam@arb.org.uk or 020 7580 5861).
