The way architectural qualifications are recognised between the UK and the EU has changed.

Interim arrangements are in place to facilitate the ongoing registration of individuals holding appropriate EU qualifications.  If you are seeking to register in the EU, we advise that you check our EU Exit webpages for updates and ensure you have the relevant documentation ready before applying.

UK qualified individuals wishing to register in an EU State may now be subject to additional requirements.  You must contact the competent authority in the relevant country to clarify their specific requirements.  We will continue to provide certificates confirming an individual’s status where it is helpful to do so.

If you are seeking to register in the UK or in EU, we advise that you check our EU Exit webpages for updates and ensure you have the relevant documentation ready before applying.

To ensure that registration arrangements continue to operate seamlessly between the UK and Ireland, we have set up an historic agreement with the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland.  The agreement means that we will continue to mutually recognise qualifications as we did under the previous system, and individuals who qualified in either country do not need to meet additional requirements in order to register in the other.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) is currently consulting on what will replace the interim arrangements. The consultation closes on 22 January 2021, after which feedback will be analysed and a government response will be published.  This will provide further details on how our future international routes to registration will be shaped.

We will keep you updated as the new arrangements develop. In the meantime please see our EU Exit webpages, including our FAQs, for the latest information. For more tailored advice please get in touch with us at info@arb.org.uk or on +44 (0)20 7580 5861.
