We’re pleased to reveal that 38,786 architects paid their 2018 annual retention fee by the 31 December 2017, equivalent to 97% of the Register.

Architects are legally required to pay a retention fee which covers the regulation of the profession, enabling us to support architects and potential users of architects’ services. Receiving payments on time helps us keep costs down, so strong engagement like this is a positive outcome for everyone. We work hard to highlight the renewal date in our own communications as well as through the professional bodies and press.  We also further developed our technology this year to provide a more streamlined payment process.

The Architects Act 1997 requires ARB to hold an accurate Register and so those who do not pay their fee on time have to be removed under section 8.2 of the legislation. If this has happened to you, don’t worry, coming back on to the Register is quick and easy. Most applying to re-join can be added back on to the Register in five days.  You’ll need to complete an application form and pay £152 (the retention fee of £107 plus a £35 application fee and £10 prescribed fee). We endeavour to make reinstatement as straight-forward and efficient as possible however if you have any feedback on the process we would welcome yours views.
