Prescribed Exam
Our Prescribed Exam provides a route to registration as an architect in the UK for those who hold qualifications not prescribed by us.

On 9 December 2019, the Board agreed to consult on proposed changes focussed on basic operational and governance areas. The consultation launched on 16 December 2019 and closed on 13 January 2020.

At its meeting on 27 January, the Board noted the three consultation responses were received and approved the changes to the Examination Procedures. The Board is also noted that an amendment to the online guidance for candidates would also be required.

General Rules
On 7 January 2019, a revised version of the Architects Act 1997 came into force. To ensure that the General Rules remained aligned with the Act changes to the Rules were proposed to reflect the UK’s departure from the EU (either with or without a deal), and to allow the Board to appoint a temporary Chair should it need to do so.

At its meeting on 9 December 2019, the Board agreed to hold a five week consultation on the proposed changes. The consultation launched on 16 December 2019 and closed on 13 January 2020.

At its meeting on the 27 January, the Board noted that no consultation responses were received and approved the proposed changes. It also agreed to the updated version of the General Rules be published as soon as possible after 31 January 2020.

The Board papers for both consultation decisions can be found on our website here (items 6 and 7). The minutes from the meeting will be published in the same section in the near future.
