Back in September we explained the Board would be moving to a new structure where all members are appointed by the Privy Council and the Board will consist of eleven members in total, made up of:

  • One independent, non-executive Chair
  • Ten non-executive Board members (five architect and five lay members of the public)

Following a successful recruitment campaign, the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government is currently undertaking the appointment process. On 7 January 2019, an updated version of the Architects Act 1997 will come into force and establish the new Board.

We are undertaking extensive work at the moment to ensure the transition from outgoing to new Board is as smooth as possible. This has included reviewing our governance provision to make sure it aligns with the revised legislation and enables us to operate as effectively as possible when the new Board starts its work. With this in mind, the Board agreed at its meeting on 29 November 2018 several adjustments needed to be made to its General Rules and the Prescription Committee terms of reference.

Before deciding on any course of action, it is important that we have your views. Further details regarding the proposed changes and how you can respond to the consultations are available via the links below.
