At ARB, we are committed to supporting architects through regulation and signpost architects to ABS when financial or emotional concerns are shared with us. The Architects Benevolent Society (ABS) is a charity which supports past and present architects, as well as the wider architectural profession, in times of need.

ABS knows that it is not always easy to ask for help and any enquiries they receive are treated with sensitivity and total confidentiality. This means, for example, no details you share will ever be passed on to us and we will not share personal details about you with ABS.

Problems can be prevented from getting even more serious and in urgent cases, ABS can provide assistance straight away.

Eligibility for support will be based on your professional work experience in the UK as well as an individual financial assessment. ABS frequently supports working architects and families and can provide a range of help such as:

  • Confidential advice
  • Referrals to specialist partners
  • Financial assistance
  • Mental health support

ABS is responsive to individual circumstances and examples of support include monthly grants for essential daily living costs, help with costs incurred by sudden change in circumstances and debt management advice.

Architects are required to pay a fee to be included on the Architects Register and fund the regulation of the profession, but if you can’t pay your fee or are finding this time of year difficult ABS may be able to help.

Contact an ABS Welfare Officer to discuss your circumstances and eligibility for support, and if you know someone else who might benefit from their support, pass these details on.
